Two One Five is the title for my work for the Made in Morley

Textile Exhibition 2016.

Our brief was to create a piece of work that we felt represented the River Thames.

Part of my weaving practise is experimenting with using the hanging weft as part of the work. For Two One Five I used this technique to create the underneath of the river. The front of the weaving represents the flat surface of the water; the weft at the back symbolises the much less predicable undersurface.

I love working with these two extremes in weaving, and felt this was a good way to show the calmer surface of the water, and the mysterious, mainly unseen river bed below.

This continuously woven piece contains forty seven different blends, and maps the journey of the Thames. It measures 215cm; each centimetre representing a mile of the river.
